Driving
Running-in
your
406 Coupe properly
The free first service is due at 1 000/1 500 miles (1 500/2500
km)
Before the
first
service
drive
moderately and avoid
high
speeds.
Avoid braking too
abruptly
to ensure that the brakes are properly bedded
in.
Careful running-in
will
economise
oil
consumption
throughout the life of your vehicle.
Depending
on how you use your
vehicle,
the engine
oil
consumption
may
reach
0.5 litres
per
600 miles
(1
000
km)
after running-in
over
at
least 3000 miles (5000
km).
Frequent
fast
driving,
with the engine
at
high
revs,
considerably
increases the oil consumption.
Only top
up the oil
if
the level is in the
minimum
zone
on
the
dipstick.
When
topping
up
the
oil
never
exceed
the
maximum.
Pay attention
to
the servicing
instructions,
fluid changes and recommendations
in the Warranty
and
Maintenance
Record
booklet.
WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW
Starting
Do not
race the engine.
Driving
If
the
red
stop lights come
on,
stop immediately
(see
pages
21-23).
Stopping
Before stopping
the
engine,
always return to
idle,
otherwise
you
the engine
may seriously damage the catalytic
converter.

Never
race
a
cold
engine.
Never
run
the engine in
an
enclosed
space.
If the engine
cannot
be
stopped
using
the
ignition
key,
press the brake
pedal,
engage
a
gear
and
release the
clutch
to
stall
the
engine.
