Safety Information

1.2

Introduction

1.2.1
Read all of the material in this section and review the MSDS
the ink before handling any UV ink or using the Arizona T220UV printer.
Caution:
properly handled. Avoid direct skin or eye contact with wet/
uncured ink. Follow the guidelinesin this section carefully in order
to ensure maximum safety.

Personal Safety

1.2.2
The operator should wear butyl rubber gloves, a protective apron, and Safety glasses
with side shields when handling inks (provided in Starter Kit).

Safety Systems and Machine Safeguarding

1.2.3
The Arizona T220UV printer has an integrated safety interlock system that stops all
machine motion when a situation that might compromise operator safety occurs. Thus,
opening any of the gantry doors (except during authorized procedures), tripping the
hinged gate on the gantry cover, or activating an Emergency-Stop button will switch the
Safety Monitoring Relay input circuits. This results in the system isolating the power to
both the motion control motors and the T220UV curing system (lamps). For a general
description of how the safety interlock system works, see "Safety Interlocks" on page 27
and for a detailed technical description see Appendix B.

Handling UV Inks

1.2.4
Read and practice safety guidelines as outlined in the Material Safety Data Sheet
(MSDS) for each ink. Post these documents in the work area as required by prevailing
law. MSDS for all six inks are provided when you purchase inks. The following is a
summary of the important safety aspects of the MSDS that are common to all Océ UV
inks.
1. A Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS) is a document that contains information on the potential health
effects of exposure and how to work safely with the chemical product. It is an essential starting point for
the development of a complete health and safety program. It contains hazard evaluations on the use,
storage, handling and emergency procedures all related to that material. The MSDS contains much more
information about the material than the label and it is prepared by the supplier. It is intended to tell what
the hazards of the product are, how to use the product safely, what to expect if the recommendations are
not followed, what to do if accidents occur, how to recognize symptoms of overexposure, and what to do
if such incidents occur.
