REMOVING THE TRANSMISSION

1. Remove:
Left crankcase

Refer to "CRANKCASE AND CRANK-
SHAFT" on page 5-59.
2. Remove:
Secondary shaft; "1"
G
Main axle"2"
G
Drive axle"3"
G
Primary driven gear"4"
G
First wheel gear"5"
G
First pinion gear
G

CHECKING THE TRANSMISSION

1. Measure:
Main axle runout
G
(with a centering device and dial gauge)
Out of specification → Replace the main axle.
Main axle runout
0.08 mm (0.0031 in)
2. Measure:
Drive axle runout
G
(with a centering device and dial gauge)
Out of specification → Replace the drive axle.
Drive axle runout
0.08 mm (0.0031 in)
3. Measure:
Secondary shaft runout
G
(with a centering device and dial gauge)
Out of specification → Replace the second-
ary shaft.
Maximum secondary shaft runout
0.08 mm (0.0031 in)
4. Check:
Transmission gear movement
G
Rough movement → Replace the defective
part(s).
5. Check:
Circlips
G
Bends/damage/looseness → Replace.
