Configuring the Adapter
Note: The configuration of your adapter must be set on a
computer that has a diskette drive, so you can run the
configuration program found on the option diskette. Hence, if you
want to have the IBM ISA Ethernet Adapters operate in a computer
without a diskette drive, you will have to temporarily install and
configure it in a computer that has a diskette drive, ensuring that
you set the configuration parameters to be compatible with the
computer in which the adapter will be installed.
Note: If you are planning to use RiPL and are installing more than
one adapter, see "POST and RiPL" on page 46 before configuring
the adapters.
1
Turn on your computer.
2
After the DOS prompt appears, insert the option diskette in
the A: drive.
Note: If you do not have a DOS session available with your
operating system, refer to "Configuring in a Non-DOS
environment" on page 41.
3
From the DOS prompt, type A: and press Enter.
4
From A:
>
prompt, type CONFIG and press Enter.
The MAIN MENU of the configuration/diagnostics program
appears on your computer's display.
5
This program allows you to choose to configure the new
adapter automatically or manually. Review step a and step b
and select the appropriate option. Step a (automatic
configuration) is generally preferable. This program also
allows you to select advanced configuration options; these
are described in section c.
