SCREEN 1
When you press the
SPACEBAR,
it may seem as
though the cursor moves but no character is put
on the screen
.
But really a character
is
put on the
screen-
you just can t see it because it is a
blank
character.
Now press and hold down the SPACEBAR for a mo-
ment until the cursor is in the middle of the
line.
At
this point the first half of the line is filled with blank
characters.
SCREEN 2
Now type
ATARI COMPUTER
By pressing the SPACEBAR after the I key, you
put a space between the two
words.
SCREEN 3
The SPACEBAR will also move the cursor down to
the next
line.
Press the SPACEBAR a few times until
the cursor is at the beginning of the next
line.
SCREEN 4
WHEN YOU ARE USING A BASIC
CARTRIDGE,
you can use the SPACEBAR (instead of the RETURN
key) when you simply want to move to the next line
but do not want to send a command to the com-
puter. This avoids getting an ERROR message when
the words you 've typed are not a BASIC
command.
We'll do this in some of the exercises that follow.
