CHAPTER 3
MEET THE KEYS
The keyboard is an essential part of all com-
puters, including your Atari. The computer com-
municates wIth you by creating sound and
graphics on your TV set. You communicate with
the computer by typing on the computer con-
sole's
keyboard.
Using the computer keyboard is
as easy as typing a letter to a friend on a type-
writer, and the effect is the same-an exchange
of information takes
place.
Once you learn a few
simple tricks about using the keyboard, using
your computer will be easier than you may
think.
Take a look at the keyboard on your Atari. It
looks very much like a normal typewriter key-
board.
The letter keys are arranged in the stan-
dard layout called OWERTY This name is
derived from the letters on the left side of the
upper row of letter keys
(0,
W, E,
R,
T, and Y).
In addition to the letter keys, the keyboard has a
row of number keys at the
top,
a SPACEBAR at
the bottom, two SHIFT keys (one on each side of
the SPACEBAR), various punctuation symbols (to
the right of the alphabet keys), and a RETURN
key.
