Downloading Programs Through a BSS
In addition to 'sending and receiving personal
messages via a BBS, you can use many BBSs to
read bulletins which provide helpful information
about Atari
computers.
But one of the most use-
ful features of a BBS is that it allows you to trans-
fer a program or file from the BBS onto your own
cassette or
diskette.
This procedure is called
downloading a program. Most people prefer to
download onto diskettes, however, because of
the substantial amount of time it takes to down-
load onto cassettes.
In order to download a program, you need to
use a terminal program that has downloading
capabilities.
The TELELINK I terminal program
mentioned previously does not have these capa-
bilities,
while the AMODEM terminal program
allows you to download with ease. Ask your
computer dealer or local users
'
group about
which terminal program is best for your
needs.
Not only can you download a program onto
your own diskette or cassette, but you can send
a program to a BBS for someone else to down-
load.
This feature is useful when you want to
send a program to a friend who lives a distance
from you, without you or your friend having to
type the program over from
scratch.
Included
here is a list of Atari bulletin board sys-
tems.
This is the type of list that appears on your
screen when you call the number at the top of
the chart
(1-313-978-8087).
