ADJUSTING THE VALVE CLEARANCE
The following procedure applies to all of the
valves.
TIP
Valve clearance adjustment should be
made on a cold engine, at room tempera-
ture.
When the valve clearance is to be mea-
sured or adjusted, the piston must be at
top dead center (TDC) on the compression
stroke.
1. Remove:
• C.D.I. magneto cover
• Cylinder head cover
Refer to "CYLINDER HEAD" in chapter 4.
2. Measure:
• valve clearance
Out of specification
Valve clearance (cold)
Intake valve
0.07 ~ 0.10 mm (0.003~ 0.004 in)
Exhaust valve
0.07 ~ 0.10 mm (0.003~ 0.004 in)
a. Turn the crankshaft clockwise with a wrench.
b. Align the "T" mark
stationary pointer
When the "T" mark is aligned with the sta-
tionary pointer, the piston is at the Top Dead
Center (TDC).
TIP
• When the piston is at the Top Dead Center
(TDC) on the compression stroke, there
should be clearance between the valve stem
tips and their respective adjusting screws.
• Be sure to align the alignment mark
camshaft sprocket with hole mark
