Glossary

catcher bottom plate
The component of the catcher plate that
contains a row of electric leads that control drops of ink. When a charge
lead is activated, it imparts a charge to the ink drop that causes the ink
drop to be attracted to the catcher. When a lead remains deactivated, the
drop of ink remains uncharged and falls to the substrate.
charge voltage
A parameter in the system software that determines
the voltage applied to the printhead, which charges drops of ink, attracting
them to the catcher or leaving them uncharged so that they hit the
substrate. (Also called printhead volts or volts.)
charge phase
The parameter in the system software that determines
when the charge voltage is applied to the printhead. Charge phase is
measured in counts. (Also called printhead phase or phase.)
cue
A signal that represents the start of a document. A cue signal
occurs each time the cue sensor detects the leading edge of a piece of
substrate or a pre-printed cue mark on the substrate.
cue delay
The distance from the leading edge of a piece to the start of
the image.
cue distance
The distance from the cue sensor to the print array.
cue error
A parameter in the system software that allows the operator
to determine how a cue or piece overrun error is handled.
cue mark
A pre-printed mark on a web that, in most cases, indicates
the start of a new document.
cue sensor
A device mounted on the document transport that detects
the beginning of a document. The beginning can be indicated by marks
on a web or the leading edges of pieces of substrate.
