    Introduction This operating manual tells you how to put your PC into operation and how to operate it in daily use. The Operating Manual applies for all configuration levels. Depending on the configuration level chosen some of the hardware components described may not be available on your PC. Please observe the notes on your operating system.

    Preparing for use Setting up the PC Setting up the PC When installing your PC, give consideration to the recommendations and safety notes in the "Safety and Ergonomics" booklet. Set up the PC only in its correct orientation. The points to observe are illustrated on the following pages.

    Connect the monitor, mouse and keyboard Preparing for use Ê Depending on the connector supplied with your monitor, plug the monitor's power cable into either the PC (1) or the mains supply (2). You may connect a monitor with a rated current of less than 1.5 A (230 V) or 3 A (115 V). The rated current for the monitor is given on the monitor itself and in the operating manual for the monitor.

    Connecting external devices Preparing for use Connecting external devices Do not connect or disconnect cables during a thunderstorm. Always take hold of the actual plug. Never unplug a cable by pulling the cable itself. Connect and disconnect the cables in the order described below. With the exception of USB devices, always remove all power plugs before connecting external devices! Read the documentation on the external device before connecting it.

USB devices are hot-pluggable. This allows cables from USB devices to be connected and disconnected with the system switched on.

    Operation Indicators on the PC Placing a PC (with soft power off function) in a ready-to-operate state by means of software With the soft power off function the PC automatically switches off (standby) or switches into the energy-saving mode after the operating system is shut down. Requirements: Your system must support switching off with software and this functionality must be enabled in BIOS Setup.

    Keyboard Operation 4 - Power-on indicator The indicator lights green: The PC is on. The indicator lights up orange or flashes: The PC is ready-to-operate or in energy-saving mode. After being switched on with the power button, the PC switches on or returns to the state it was in before the energy-saving mode.

Ideally hard disks are connected to IDE port 1, and accessible drives, for example CD-ROMs, to IDE port 2 (see also the Technical Manual for the system board).
