Troubleshooting

Error Messages

As with any sophisticated office product, errors may occur. If this
happens, your machine identify the problem and displays an error
message. The most common error messages are shown below.
ERROR MESSAGES

MESSAGE
The machine is set BT Call Sign to ON. You can
BT CALL SIGN
not change the Receive Mode from Manual to
ON
another mode.
An ink cartridge is not properly installed.
CHECK
CARTRIDGE
Document was not inserted or fed properly, or
CHECK
was larger than 90 cm when it was scanned
DOCUMENT
through the ADF.
The paper in the paper tray is smaller than A4.
CHECK PAPER
(The machine can not print fax message, Help
SIZE
list or any other fax reports if it is not A4 paper.)
The machine is out of paper.
CHECK PAPER
Poor phone line quality caused a
COMM. ERROR
communication error.

ACTION
Set BT Call Sign to OFF. (See BT
Call Sign (For U.K. Only) on page
5-18.)
Take out the ink cartridge and put it
in again it seating it properly. (See
Replacing the ink cartridge on page
21-22.)
(See Document jams on page 21-4.)
Reload the A4 paper, and then
press Fax Start.
Add paper, and then press
Fax Start.
Try the call again. If the problem
continues, call the telephone
company and ask them to check
your phone line.
