Quick Checklist

Hardware

Software

Listed below are some hardware and software related items that potentially could
cause tape drive failures. These items are covered in more detail under Eliminating
Resource Conflicts, Installation, and Resolving Operating Problems.
Make sure the following tasks have been properly completed:
I
The Compaq System Configuration Utility has been checked for conflicts
I
The tape drive switches and jumpers have been set correctly
I
The power and signal cables are connected correctly and the controller is
seated properly
I
For all Compaq computers with multiple devices on a SCSI bus, each device
has a unique SCSI ID
Make sure the software is properly functioning:

The tape drive passes the Compaq Diagnostics test
I
The controller has been configured using the Compaq System Configuration
Utility
I
The correct software drivers are being used. (Make sure that the operating
system driver for the tape drive matches the drive type.)
I
The version of the backup software supports the tape hardware you
are using.
If none of these software problems above apply, try reinstalling the tape drive
software.
