Chapter 4: Basic device configuration

This chapter provides information about basic configuration of the Avaya G250/G350 Media
Gateway and contains the following sections:

Defining an interface

Configuring the Primary Management Interface (PMI)
parameters that identify the G250/G350 to other devices
Defining the default gateway
the G250/G350's default gateway
Configuring the Media Gateway Controller (MGC)
MGC to work with the G250/G350
DNS Resolver
to IP addresses
Viewing the status of the device

Defining an interface
All interfaces on the G250 and G350 must be defined by the administrator, after installation of
the G250/G350.
To define an interface:
1. Use the interface command to enter the interface context. Some types of interfaces
require an identifier as a parameter. Other types of interfaces require the interface's module
and port number as a parameter. For example:
interface vlan 1
interface serial 2/1
interface fastethernet 10/2.0

2. Use the ip address command, followed by an IP address and subnet mask, to assign an
IP address to the interface.
3. Use the load-interval command to set the load calculation interval for the interface.
