2 Protective Cap
When the TAD answers a call, the
Touchscreen shows Telephone.
IMPORTANT
DO NOT connect a TAD elsewhere on the
same telephone line.

Connection settings

The external TAD must be connected as
shown in the previous illustration.
NOTE

Carefully guide the telephone line cord
and out the back of the machine.

Place both hands under the plastic tabs
on both sides of the machine to lift the
scanner cover into the open position.

Carefully guide the telephone line cord
into the cable channel and out the back
of the machine.
(MFC-J870DW)
Carefully guide the telephone line cord
from the LINE socket into the cable
channel and out the back of the
machine.
Remove the protective cap (1) from the
right side of the machine, and insert it
into (2) so that it is not lost.
Carefully guide the telephone line cord
from the EXT. socket into the cable
channel and out the right side of the
machine.

Lift the scanner cover to release the
lock. Gently push the scanner cover
support down and close the scanner
cover using both hands.

Set your external TAD to one or two
rings. (The machine's Ring Delay setting
does not apply.)

Record the outgoing message on your
external TAD.

Set the TAD to answer calls.

Set the Receive Mode to
External TAD. (See Choose the
Receive Mode on page 40.)
