Installing WebScale Software
The following instructions provide information for installing WebScale software on a system
with single or dual installed network interface cards (NICs).
A WebScale server configured with a single installed NIC is the most common configuration
and will provide good overall performance for most types of cluster configurations and
network traffic patterns. However, if you have a large amount of dedicated traffic, you may
improve performance by using a second NIC to segregate the cluster traffic from the
dedicated traffic. For example, you may have high-volume replication between the
WebScale cluster servers for which there may be no low usage hours in which to schedule
the replication, or you may have routine transfers of large amounts of data to and from your
servers.
Gathering Pre-Installation Information
Determine the following information before setting up WebScale. Record the information in
the space provided:
Primary Internet Protocol (IP) Address: The cluster-wide
virtual IP address to be used for all hosts in the cluster.
Subnet mask: The subnet mask for the cluster's primary IP
address.
Full Internet Name: The cluster's full Internet name (for
example, cluster.mycompany.com) which resolves to the
Primary IP Address. Refer to your license key form for this
information, and ensure that the Internet name you specify
matches the name listed on the license key form.
