POST error messages

The following table provides an abbreviated list of the error messages that might
appear during POST. See the "Diagnostics" in the BladeCenter HS40 Type 8839
Hardware Maintenance Manual and Troubleshooting Guide on the IBM BladeCenter
Documentation CD or the IBM BladeCenter T Documentation CD that comes with
your blade server for more information about the POST error messages.

ServerGuide problems

The following table lists problem symptoms and suggested solutions.

Symptom
The ServerGuide Setup and
Installation CD will not start.
The SCSI RAID program cannot
view all installed drives, or the
operating system cannot be
installed.
Failing device or problem found
The real-time clock battery has
failed.
The time of day has not been set.
Microprocessor mismatch
A failing DIMM was disabled.
Keyboard and keyboard controller
Suggested action
v Make sure that the BladeCenter CD-ROM drive is associated with the blade
server that you are configuring.
v Make sure that the blade server supports the ServerGuide program and has a
startable (bootable) CD-ROM (or DVD-ROM) drive.
v If the startup (boot) sequence settings have been altered, make sure that the
CD-ROM drive is first in the startup sequence.
v Make sure that there are no duplicate SCSI IDs or IRQ assignments.
v Make sure that the hard disk drive is connected correctly.
Suggested action
Replace the battery or call for service.
Set the date and time.
Install microprocessors of identical type.
Make sure that the DIMMs are supported by
your blade server and that they are installed
correctly.
v Make sure that the keyboard/mouse/video
select button LED on the front of the blade
server is lit, indicating that the blade server
is connected to the shared BladeCenter
keyboard.
v Make sure that the keyboard cable is
connected to the BladeCenter unit and that
nothing is resting on the keyboard keys.
