12. Press Esc. A message screen appears. Then Data Protector Express restarts your computer.
13. To recover their system to the state of the last backup, all Windows users must now create and run an
additional Restore job. See "Recover System State (Windows only)" below. For Linux users, Disaster
Recovery is now complete and they can use Data Protector Express to restore the data from
incremental and differential backup media, if needed.
To recover their system to the state of the last backup, all Windows users must create and run an
additional Restore job. (This is not necessary on Linux systems.) On a system with Windows Active
Directory, this additional step should be carried out in Safe Mode, as described in "Error! Reference
source not found." later in this chapter.
1. Once your system has restarted, log in to Data Protector Express.
2. Create a restore job and give it a meaningful name, such as "System State Restore".
3. Select System State from the Selection page.
4. Run the restore job.
5. Exit Data Protector Express.
6. Restart the computer, letting Windows load normally.
Any databases such as SQL and Exchange which were backed up as part of an agent must also be restored.
If you had incremental and differential backup media since the last full backup, now use Data Protector
Express to restore the data from your incremental and differential backup media.
When attempting to recover your system, the following are common errors that occur:
Get or set server failure
This message appears when Data Protector Express cannot reconfigure the disk drives and volumes
on the target system. Make sure that all disks are powered on and ready and that any new disks are the
same size or larger than the old disks. Make sure that the geometries of any new disks are also the
same size or larger. Make sure you have enabled logical block addressing in your BIOS configuration
and that any SCSI controllers are configured the same as when you created the recovery tape. If you
changed SCSI adapters, Data Protector Express may not be able to access any peripherals from the
new adapter unless it uses the same driver as the old adapter.
Unable to boot from tape
This message appears if the tape does not contain a valid disaster recovery boot track. Try another
tape or tape drive, if available.
