The DP-2800 installer consists of the following items:
• DP-2800 Driver - the software works with applications to select DP-2800 printer
features and options. It reads information from the Postscript printer description
(PPD) file, finding the available options for the selected model. Both theDP-2800
Driver and the PPDs are selected in the Chooser under the Apple Menu. The
installer places the 450K driver into the System/Extensions folder.
• DP-2800 Utility - the software enables the user to manage network printers, to
identify their general features, to send text and command strings to the them, to
manage fonts, to rename network printers and set power on status pages. The
installer places the 320K utility on the desktop.
• TrueType Screen Fonts- this collection of ten (10) screen fonts matches the printer
fonts to provide true WYSIWYG. The installer places the 1.5 MB font collection in
the System/Fonts folder.
• Postscript printer description (PPD) file- This file contains the feature and option
information for each model DP-2800 printer. It uses an industry standard PPD
format to report to the driver and the utility and provides support for paper handling
options, fonts, language support, paper size, and printer options. The installer places
the DP-2800 PPD files into the System/Extensions/Printer Descriptions folder
where they reside with other manufacturer's PPDs. They occupy 1.2MB of disk
space on the Macintosh.
• Readme File- This file provides installation instructions, font information and last
minute change information. The installer places the file on the Apple desktop.

6.2 Setting the Printer's Default Emulation

Before accessing the printer from the Macintosh, the printer's default emulation must
be set to KPDL or KPDL (Auto). KPDL (Auto) will automatically determine the
necessary emulation for KPDL (PostScript) and non-KPDL print jobs.
If only PostScript print jobs will be sent to the printer, use KDPL emulation. If both
PostScript and non-PostScript jobs will be sent to the printer, use KPDL (Auto)
emulation.
The following procedure may be used to change the default emulation from the
printer's front panel.
1. Press the Mode Select key.
2. Press + or - until Interface is displayed. If the current Interface is not Option, then
press Enter, press + or - until Option is displayed, and press Enter again.
