Browsing Files Remotely
Remote access enables you to access photos, music, movies or other files on
your HP Media Vault when you are away from home. For instance, you are at
a party and have the ideal music on your server. You could log in remotely to
download the music and burn it to a CD to share with all of your friends.
Likewise, remote access makes it possible for family and friends outside of
your home network to access your HP Photo Webshare from a web browser.
Family or friends outside of your home network can also view or upload
photos or videos to Webshare once remote access is enabled and Webshare
visitor accounts are created. For additional information on setting up
Webshare, see
Enabling Remote Access
There are a few things to consider before enabling remote access. The first is
the security of your HP Media Vault. It is strongly recommended that you
create an administrator user name and password for your HP Media Vault
Administration Console. Otherwise, anyone with your personal domain can
access your Administration Console and change system settings for your
Media Vault. For additional information, see
page
2-26.
Another consideration before enabling remote access is the security level of
your shared folders. Public shared folders must be password protected
before they can be accessed remotely. Public shared folders have a lower
level of security since they are password protected at the folder level. Private
shared folders are more secure since they require each user to have a
Photo Webshare on page
3-33.
