Place the keyboard directly in front of you. Keep the
keyboard at a height that lets your arms and hands stay
relaxed and comfortable. Avoid reaching to use your
keyboard.
Angle your keyboard so that your wrists are straight
while you are typing. Adjust the keyboard until you find
the most comfortable slope. Keep your wrists in a
neutral or straight position as much as possible.
While typing, avoid resting your wrists on surfaces,
especially sharp edges. Avoid bending your wrists. If
you have a wrist pad, use it to rest your wrists between
typing.
Keep your elbows near your body and your forearms
parallel to the floor and at keyboard height. Your upper
arms should hang freely at your sides, nearly vertical
and at approximately a 90-degree angle to the forearms.
Move your entire hand to press hard-to-reach keys. Keep
your hands and fingers relaxed, straight, and parallel to
the floor. Keep your hands and fingers free to move
forward, backward, and sideways over the entire
keyboard. Keep from bending your wrists, hands, or
fingers sideways and thereby creating radial or ulnar
deviation.
Press keys with the lightest amount of pressure required.
Avoid banging on the keys. Keep your arms, hands, and
fingers relaxed.
If you use a mouse, position it at the same height as the
keyboard. Use your entire arm when moving the mouse.
Avoid resting your wrist on the mouse pad surface and
simply bending your wrist to move the mouse. Do not
grasp the mouse too hard.
