6.1 Technical maintenance
1. Ask the operators who work with the machine for any issues related to the machine
and its operation.
2. Unplug the machine. Inspect supply cord, cable plug, and wall receptacle. Pay attention
to mechanical damages, damaged insulation, and colour changes. Make photo as
necessary. Replace damaged components.
3. Open the electric panel. Remove dust and debris from inside.
4. Inspect internal wiring and components; pay attention to mechanical damages,
insulation colour changing. Replace damaged wiring; restore markings on the wiring.
5. Tighten contact joints and terminals of main current conducting parts, terminal block
and connectors. Face up pitted contacts as necessary.
6. Detach stator by unscrewing four wing nuts, see Fig. 11.
7. Remove impeller by removing three fastening screws.
8. Open each brush unit by removing two screws that fix unit's cover. Take out and inspect
carbon electrodes from the units. If they are worn more than half of the length, replace
the unit. ATTENTION! After installing a new brush unit, allow motor to run for 15
minutes before turning on the heating coil. This will allow the brushes to conform to
the slip rings, avoiding the potential for arcing under load.
9. Inspect the slip rings for bumps and color changes. The rings should fit closely to
insulators and should not show excessive wear. If worn out significantly, replace the
spinning head.
10. Check resistance of the heating coil. It should be around 44 Ohm.
11. Make sure there is no ground fault on the heating coil.
