2.4 Protective equipment
Personal protective equipment (PPE)
Description of protective equipment

Personal protective equipment is designed to protect personnel from health
and safety hazards at work.
Personal protective equipment must be worn for various system-related
activities. Special reference to the equipment required will be made in the
individual sections of this manual. A description of the different items of
personal protective equipment that may be required is provided below:
Before commencing work, please ensure that the appropriate personal
protective equipment, as stipulated in the different sections of this manual,
is worn.
Protective clothing
Protective clothing refers to closely fitting work clothing with low tear
resistance, close-fitting sleeves and no loose hanging parts. It is designed
primarily to protect against becoming entangled in moving machinery. Do
not wear rings, chains or other jewelry.
Special heat-resistant, lint-free gloves
The special gloves supplied are designed to protect the hands from contact
heat when touching hot components.
The special gloves also protect sensitive components from contamination and
damage.
Protective goggles
The protective goggles protect the eyes from flying debris or splashes

Protective gloves protect the hands from friction, abrasion, punctures or
deeper cuts and from contact with hot surfaces.
Safety shoes
Safety shoes provide protection from falling heavy components and help
prevent slipping when walking on slippery surfaces.
