Menu bar (brief description)

Menu - Import
In this menu, saved projects can be
loaded.
Menu - Save
In this menu, currently created projects can
be saved.
Menu - Set parameters
In this menu, the simulation parameters
wind direction, wind speed and cloud cover
can be set. Depending on the selection,
the effect of the simulation parameters on
the physical computation of the fire propagation changes.
Menu - Define scale
In this menu it is possible to choose between the scales
1000m:700 m or 5000 m:3500 m. Depending on the selection,
the effect of the simulation parameters on the physical
computation of the fire propagation changes.
Menu - Set simulation
In this menu, the factors influencing the simulation parameters
can be adjusted. Depending on the selection, the effect of the
simulation parameters on the physical computation of the fire
propagation changes.
Menu - Show image template
In this menu, the imported file is displayed and the opacity of
the image file can be adjusted using the slider control.
Menu - Generate landscape
In this menu the terrain or landscape can be defined. It is
possible to choose between grass, deciduous forest,
coniferous forest, dead wood, cornfield, stubble field, water
and settlement. All elements are designated as fire loads and
affect the physical computation of the fire propagation.
Menu - Generate roads
In this menu the terrain or landscape can be augmented by
roads. For each road, the probability with which a fire can jump
over the road can be set.
Menu - Simulate fire
In this menu, the source of the fire and various extinguishing
measures can be set. It is also possible to set the simulation
speed and to pause or stop the simulation. The simulation can
also be rewound and fast-forwarded in discrete steps.
Menu - Terrain
In this menu the terrain or landscape can be displayed. The
Terrain menu is displayed in the lower menu bar.
Menu - Topography
In this menu, the depth map will be displayed and regenerated
by a new scan if the topography has changed since the
application was started. The minimum and maximum distance
from the sand to the depth camera can also be adjusted here
if the topography map is not displayed correctly. Additionally,
you can use the Smooth button to assume that the surface in
the computation is completely smooth. The Topography menu
is displayed in the lower menu bar.

Operation of the program

4.3.1

Setting the depth map

After the program is started, the screen for setting the depth
map opens.
The recording area of the depth camera extends beyond the
sandbox. When starting the application, the depth map, which
is generated by the depth camera, must first be limited to the
sandbox. The minimum and maximum distance from the sand
to the depth camera can also be adjusted if the topography
map is not displayed correctly.

2 Instructions for calibrating the depth map
Procedure
Proceed as follows to limit the depth map:
1. If necessary, set the minimum and maximum sand height
so that the depth map is displayed correctly. Low-lying
sand should be displayed in green and piled-up or high-
lying sand should be displayed in orange to red.
2. In the depth map, define the lower left boundary of the
sandbox. To do this, click at the appropriate location in the
depth map.
3. Select the Confirm button.
4. In the depth map, define the upper right boundary of the
sandbox. To do this, click at the appropriate location in the
depth map.
5. Select the Confirm button.
