Protocol Modes and Command Differences

When you complete a command input form for a particular device, the NMS determines the
protocol mode and device type from the device profile. Depending on the device profile
information, NMS encodes the command's message transaction in the appropriate protocol; or if
the command is incompatible with the device selected, informs you of the discrepancy. If no
profile exists, NMS advises you accordingly and does not send out a command. Commands can be
sent to the following devices:
Table 1-2 provides a list of the commands and the devices to which the command can be sent, and
indicates the protocol mode in which the command can be sent to the specified device. In the table,
none indicates that the command cannot be sent to the device, and both indicates that the command
can be sent to the device in either protocol mode.
