Managing Modems and DSUs

Overview

The 6800 Series NMS provides alert management, configuration management, and diagnostic test
and command support for the following modems and Data Service Units (DSUs):
• DATAPHONEr II Analog Private Line (APL) Modems
• DATAPHONE II Direct Distance Dial (DDD) Modems
• DATAPHONE II Data Service Units (DSUs)
• COMSPHEREr 3400/4400 Series Analog Private Line (APL) Modems
• COMSPHERE 3900 Series Analog Private Line (APL) Modems
• COMSPHERE 3600 Series Data Service Units (DSUs)
• COMSPHERE 3800 Series Direct Distance Dial (DDD) Modems
NMS also provides configuration and alert management for ANALYSIS-supported devices.
Command support and diagnostic test support for COMSPHERE 4400 Series Service Restoration
Control Units (SRCUs) and ANALYSIS-supported devices are achieved via the External Systems
function of the NMS.
All devices in the network are classified into device classes as shown in Table 1-1. You will be
using these device classes when you configure your network.
