Programming the Remote
Notes on Usingthe AVR 520 Remote
With Other Devices.
• Manufacturers may usedifferent codesets
for the sameproductcategory.Forthat rea-
son, it is importantthat youcheckto see
whetherthe codeset you haveenteredoper-
ates asmanycontrolsaspossible. I f it
appearsthat only a few functionsoperate,
checkto seewhetheranothercodeset will
work with morebuttons.
• Whena button is pressedon the AVR520
remote,the red light underthe Input
Selector_
for the product beingoperat-
ed shouldflash briefly.If the DeviceControl
Selector f lashesfor somebut not all buttons
for a particular product,it doesNOTindicate
a problemwith the remotebut rather that
no function is programmed for the button
beingpushed.
Volume Punch-Through
TheAVR520's remotemay be programmed to
operatethe Volume Control _
and Mute
functions of either the TVor the AVR520
in conjunction w ith any of the devicescon-
trolled by the remote.Forexample,sincethe
AVR520 will likelybe usedasthe soundsys-
tem forTV viewing,you may wish to havethe
AVR520's volumeactivated,althoughthe
remote is set to run the TV.Eitherthe AVR520
or TV volumecontrol may be associated with
any of the remote'sdevices. T oprogramthe
remotefor Volume Punch-Through, follow these
steps:
1. Press the Input Selector_
forthe unit
youwish to haveassociated with the volume
controlandthe Mute Button _
at the
sametime untilthe red light appears under
the Input Selector_
andnotethat the
Program/SPL Indicator _
will flash
amber.
2. Press the Volume Up Button _
and
note that the Program/SPL Indicator
will stop flashing and stay amber.
3. Presseither the AVR Selector _
or the
Input Selector_,
dependingon which
system's volumecontrol you wish to have
attached for the punch-through mode.The
Program/SPL Indicator _
will blink
greenthreetimesandthen go out to confirm
the data entry.
Example:Tohavethe AVR520's volume
control activatedeventhough the remote is
set to control the TV, f irst pressthe
Video/W Input Selector I!_ andthe
Mute Button _
at the sametime. Next,
pressthe Volume Up Button _,
fol-
lowed bythe AVRSelector (_.
NOTE:Shouldyou wishto returnthe remoteto
the originalconfiguration after enteringa
VolumePunch-Through, you will needto repeat
the stepsshownabove.However, p ressthe same
Input Selector i n Steps1 and3.
Channel Control
Punch-Through
TheAVR520'sremotemaybe programmed to
operatesothat the channel c ontrolfunction for
either the TV, c ableor satellitereceiverusedin
yoursystemmaybe usedin conjunctionwith
one of the otherdevices controlledbythe
remote.Forexample, w hile usingandcontrolling
the VCR,you maywish to changechannels on a
cable boxor satellitereceiverwithout havingto
changethe deviceselected bythe AVR520 or
the remote.Toprogram the remotefor Channel
ControlPunch-Through, follow thesesteps:
Press the Input SelectorButton _
for
the deviceyou wish to havethe channelcon-
trol associated with andthe Mute Button
at the sametime until the red light
appearsunderthe Input Selector_
and
the Program/SPL Indicator _
flashes
amber.
2. Press the Volume Down Button _.
The
Program/SPLIndicator _
will stopflash-
ing and stayamber.
Press and release the Input Selector
Button _
for the devicethat will be used
to changethe channels. TheProgram/SPI.
Indicator _
will blinkgreenthreetimes
andthen go out to confirmthe data entry.
Example:Tocontrolthe channelsusingyour
CableBoxor SatelliteReceiver whilethe
remoteis setto controlthe VCR, f irst press
the MID I/VCR Input SelectorButton
andthe Mute Button _
at the same
time.Next,release them and pressthe
Volume Down Button _,
followed bythe
VID 2/W Input SelectorButton _.
NOTE: T oremovethe Channel C ontrolPunch-
Throughand returnthe remoteto its original
configuration,repeatthe stepsshown in the
exampleabove.However, p ressthe VID I/VCR
Input Selectorin Steps1 and 3.
Transport Control
Punch-Through
TheAVR520'sremotemay be programmed to
operateso that the Transport Control
Functions _
(Play, S top,Fast F orward,
Rewind,Pause andRecord) f or a VCR,DVDor
CDwill operatein conjunctionwith oneof the
otherdevices controlledbythe remote.For
example, w hile usingandcontrollingthe TV,you
maywish to start or stop yourVCRor DVDwith-
out havingto changethe deviceselectedbythe
AVR520or the remote. T oprogramthe remote
forTransport C ontrolPunch-Through, follow
thesesteps:
1. Press the Input Selector _
for the device
youwish to havethe channel c ontrol associ-
atedwith andthe Mute Button _
at the
sametime until the red light appears under
the Input Selector _
andthe Program/
SPI.Indicator _
flashesamber.
2. Press the PlayButton I_). TheProgram/
SPLIndicator _
will stop flashingand
stayamber.
3. Press and release the Input Selector
Button _
for the devicethat will be used
to changethe channels. TheProgram/SPI.
Indicator _
will blink greenthreetimes
andthen go out to confirmthe data entry.

playerwhilethe remoteis setto controlthe

NOTE: T o remove the ChannelControlPunch-
Through and returnthe remoteto its original
configuration, r epeatthe stepsshownin the
exampleabove.However, p ressthe VID 2/TV
Input Selector in Steps1 and 3.
NOTE:Beforeprogramming the remotefor
Volume,Channel o r TransportPunch-Through,
makecertainthat any programming needed for
the specific TV,CD,DVD,Cableor Satellite
Receivers h asbeencompleted.
