6. If your DVD player and monitor both have
component video connections, connect the
component outputs of the DVD player to the
DVD Component
Video Inputs _.
Note
that even when component video connections
are used, the audio connections should still be
made to either the analog DVD Audio Inputs
O or any of the Optical or Coaxial Digital
Input Jacks _
_.
7. If another componentvideo deviceis avail-
able, connectit to the Video 2 Component

for this deviceshould be madeto either the
Video 2 Audio Input Jacks_
or any of the
Optical or Coaxial Digital Input Jacks

A deviceconnectedhereis selected
asthe Video4 input, andthe digital inputs
must be assignedto the Video4 input. (See
page 20 for moreinformationon input configu-
ration.)
Video Connection Notes:
• Whenthe component v ideo jacksare used,
the on-screenmenusare not visibleand you
mustswitchto the standardcompositeor S-
Videoinput on yourTVto view them.
• TheAVR520 will accepteither standard
composite, S -Videoor Y/Pr/Pbcomponent
video signals. However, it will not convert
composite or S signals to component video.
• Component or composite video signals may
only be viewed in their native formats.
System and Power Connections
The AVR 520 is designed for flexible use with
multiroom systems, external control compo-
nents and power amplifiers.
Main Room Remote Control
Extension
If the receiver is placed behind a solid or
smoked glass cabinet door, the obstruction may
prevent the remote sensor from receiving com-
mands. In this event, an optional remote sensor
may be used. Connect the output of the remote
sensor to the Remote IR Input jack _.
If other componentsare alsopreventedfrom
receivingremotecommands, o nly one sensoris
needed.Simplyusethis unit's sensoror a
remoteeyeby running a connectionfrom the
Remote IR Output jack _ to the RemoteIR
Inputjack on HarmanKardonor other compati-
ble equipment.
Multiroom
IR Link
The remote room IR receiver should be connected
to the AVR 520 via standard coaxial cable. Plug
the IR connection cable into the Multiroom
IR
Input jack 1_ on the AVR 520's rear panel.
If other Harman Kardon compatible source
equipment is part of the main room installation,
the Remote IR Output jack _) on the rear
panel should be connected to the IR IN jack on
source equipment. This will enable the remote
room location to control source equipment func-
tions.
NOTE:All remotelycontrolledcomponents
mustbe linked togetherin a "daisy chain".
Connect t he IR OUT jackof one unit to the IR
IN of the next to establishthis chain.
Multiroom Audio Connections
Depending on the distance from the AVR 520
to the remote room, two options are available
for audio connection:
Option 1: Usehigh-quality,shieldedaudio
interconnect c ablefrom the AVR520's location
to the remoteroom.In the remoteroom,con-
nectthe interconnect c ableto a stereopower
amplifier.Theamplifierwill be connected to the
room'sspeakers. At the AVR520, plug the
audio interconnectcablesinto the Multiroom
Output JacksO on the AVR520's rearpanel.
Option 2: Connectthe Multiroom Output
JacksO on the AVR520 to the inputs of an
optional stereopoweramplifier.Runhigh-quali-
ty speakerwire from the amplifierto the speak-
ers in the remoteroom.
NOTE:In both options, you may connectan
optional IR sensorinthe remoteroomto the
AVR520 via an appropriatecable.Connectthe
sensor'scableto the Multiroom IR Input i_
on the AVR520 and usethe Zone IIremoteto
control the roomvolume.Alternatively,you may
installan optional volumecontrol betweenthe
output of the amplifiersandthe speakers.
AC Power Connections
Thisunit is equippedwith two accessory A C
outlets.Theymay be usedto poweraccessory
devices, b ut they shouldnot be usedwith high-
currentdraw equipmentsuchas power ampli-
fiers.Thetotal power drawto eachoutlet may
not exceed100watts.
TheSwitched ACAccessoryOutlet _
will
receivepower onlywhen the unit is on. Thisis
recommended for devicesthat haveno power
switchor a mechanical p owerswitchthat may
be left in the "ON" position.
NOTE:Manyaudioand video productsgo into
a Standbymodewhen they are usedwith
switchedoutlets,and cannot be fullyturned on
usingthe outlet alonewithout a remote control
command.
TheUnswitchedAC AccessoryOutlet
will receivepoweras long asthe unit is
pluggedinto a poweredAC outlet.
Finally, when all connections are complete, p lug
the power cordinto a nonswitched1lO-volt AC
wall outlet. You'realmost readyto enjoythe
AVR520!
