Multiroom Operation
TheAVR520 is fully equippedto operate
asthe control centerfor a multiroom system
with optional remoteexternalinfrared (IR)sen-
sors,speakers and poweramplifiers. A lthough
somemultiroominstallationswill requirethe
servicesof a specially trained installer,it is pos-
siblefor the averagedo-it-yourselfhobbyistto
install a simple remoteroomsystem.
Installation
Thekeyto remote roomoperationisto link the
remote roomto the AVR520's locationwith
wire for an infraredlink and speakers or an
amplifier.Forinstallationinstructionsfor
Multiroom use,seepage 16.
Multiroom Setup
Oncethe audioandIR link connections have
beenmade,the AVR520 needs to be configured
for multiroomoperationusingthe stepsbelow.
Press the OSD Button _
to bring the
MASTER menu(Figure1) to the screen.
Press the • Button _
five times,until the
on-screen• cursoris next to the MULTI-
ROOM
line.Pressthe Set Button _

When the M U L T I - R OO M menu appears,
the on-screen • cursor will be at the
MULTI-
ROOM line. Since this line is used
to turn the system on and off, do not make an
adjustment here unless you wish to turn the
system on at this time. To turn the system on,
press the • Button _
so that ON is high-
lighted. If you do not wish to turn the system
on at this time or to proceed to the next step,
press the •
Button _
once so that the •
on-screen cursor is next to the MU L T I I N
line.
At the MULTI
IN line, pressthe ,/•
Buttons _
until the desiredinputto the
multiroom systemappearsin the highlighted
video.Whenthe selectionhasbeen made,
pressthe • Button _
onceso that the
• on-screencursoris next to the MULTI
VOL line.
At the MULTI
VOL line,pressthe ,/•

until the desiredvolume
levelfor the multiroomsystemis entered,DO
NOTusethe regularvolumecontrol knobsfor
this setting,When all settingsfor the multiroom
setuphavebeen made,pressthe A/•
Buttons _
until the on-screen• cursoris
nexttothe RETURN TO MASTER
MENU line.If you haveno other adjustments
to make,pressthe OSD Button I_) to exit
the menu system.
Multiroom Operation
When operatingthe AVR520from a remote
room locationwherean IR sensorlink hasbeen
connectedto the AVR520's rearpanel
Multiroom IR Input _, you may useeither
the main remotecontrol or the ZoneII remote.
Toturn on the multiroomfeed, pressany of the
Input Selector buttonson the ZoneII remote

or the mainremoteI!_OIf_.
Press the AVR Selector O_
to turn the
unit on to the last source,or any of the other
Selectorbuttonsto turn on to a specificsource.
As long as an IRfeed to the AVR520 hasbeen
establishedfrom the remoteroom,using any of
the buttonson either remotewill control the
remote locationvolume _

tunerfrequency_,
changethe tuner
preset_

or mute the output _

If the Remote IR Output JackI_) on the
AVR520 is connected to an IR Inputjack on
compatibleHarmanKardonaudio components
suchas CD,DVDor cassetteplayers, t he trans-
port functions of thosemachinesmay also be
controlledusing the TransportControls

on either
remote control.
Toturn the systemoff from the remote room,
pressthe Power Of[ Button qDDQ.
Remember that the AVR520 may be turned on
or off from the remoteroom, regardless of the
system's operationor statusin the mainroom.
NOTE: When the tuner is selectedasthe source
for the remotezone,any changeto the fre-
quencyor presetwill alsochangethe station
being listenedto in the main room,if the tuner
is in usethere.Similarly, i f someonein the main
room changes the station,the changewill also
impactthe remoteroom.
Toactivatethe feed to the remote room,while
you are in the main listeningroomwherethe
AVR520 is located,pressthe Multiroom
Button _
on the remote.Next, pressthe
Set Button I_.
Press the A/•
Buttons
to turn the multiroomfeed on or off. When
the multiroom systemison, the Multi
Indicator [] will light in the Main
Information Display F_[_, and the Main
Information Display[]
or OSDwill display
MU L T I 0 N. Press the Set Button li_ to
enterthe setting.
Whenthe multiroomsystemis turnedon, the
input selected usingthe multiroommenuwill be
fed to the Multiroom Output JacksO on
the rearpanel.Thevolumewill be as set inthe
previousselection, a lthoughit mayalso be
adjustedusingan optional IRsensorand the
ZoneII remotein the remotelocationor on the
optional audio poweramplifierconnectedto the
Multiroom Output Jacks0.
Oncethe multiroom systemis turned on, it will
remainon evenif the AVR520 is placedin the
Standbymode in the mainroom by pressing
the Power Of[ Button _
or the System
Power Control [] on the front panel.Toturn
off the multiroom system, e venwhen the AVRis
in Standbymode in the main listeningroom,
pressthe Multiroom Button _
andthen
the Set Button qi]_. Pressthe A/•
Buttons
sothat the Multi Indicator []
in the
Main Information Display [] goesout, and
the Main Information Display [] or OSD
will displayMULTI
OFF. Press the Set
Button _
to enterthe settingand turn the
unitoff.
Evenwhen the AVR520 is turned off inthe
main room,the multiroom systemmaybe
turned on at any time by pressingthe
Multiroom Button _,
or any of the
Selector Buttons _(_)
in the remote
room.
