Activating the BPI Mode

To use the CAS programs with the SARTORIUS MC1 Server (version 4.4 and
later), the balance must be set to the BPI mode (= Binary Processor Interface
Mode) (e.g., for linearization or when replacing the PCB).
– Turn on the balance using the e key and wait for the segment test to
run; i.e., until 0.00000 g is displayed.
– Remove the capped plug from the rear panel of the balance, located to
the left of the DC jack (see the figure on the left).
– The BPI switch is now accessible. Press the BPI switch once, e.g., with a
ball-point pen and hold it in.
– With this button pressed, a 12-volt current is applied to the MODE port
of the balance processor, which deactivates the internal write-protect
function of the EEPROM and sets the balance to the BPI communications
mode.
– The full-segment check readout ("Segment Test") is now displayed
periodically.
– Wait for at least 3 segment check readouts; afterwards, the balance will
be in the BPI mode.
– Release the BPI switch; the display now returns to the normal weight
readout mode.
– Insert the plug to close the opening on the back of the balance.
– You can now use the balance together with the SARTORIUS MC1 Server
or the SARTOCAS program for PCs in the BPI mode.
Caution:
After working in the BPI mode, make sure to set the write-protect again (with
the SARTOCAS program for the SARTORIUS MC1 Server (version 4.4 and
later)), so that the balance returns to the standard data record output mode
(SBI mode = Sartorius Balance Interface).
If the balance is in the BPI mode (= Binary Processor Interface - Mode) when
you press the p key, the error code ERR 30 will be displayed. You cannot
run the peripheral devices until you set the balance back to the SBI mode.
