to the right out of the D/S posit ion .
The transmission automatically shifts up o r down
before critical engine speed is reached .
The transm ission only a llows manual shifting
when the engine speed is wit hin the permitted
range.

Tips
- When you shift into the next lower gear, t he
transmission will downsh ift only when t here
is no poss ibility of over -rew ing the engine.
- When the kick-down comes on, the t rans-
mission will sh ift down to a lower gear, de-
pending on vehicle and engine speeds .
- Tiptron ic is inoper ative when the transmis-
sion is in the fa il-safe mode .
Kick-down
Appl ies t o: vehicles with S tro nic/t iptro nic
Kick-down enables maximum acceleration.
When you dep ress the accelerator pedal beyond
the resistance point , the automatic transm ission
downshifts into a lower gear , depending on vehi-
cle speed and eng ine speed. The upshift int o t he
next higher gear takes place once t he maximum
specified engine speed is reached .

WARNING
Please note that the drive whee ls can spin if
kick-down is used on a smooth s lippery road -
there is a risk of skidding.
Launch Control Program
Applies to : vehicles with S tro nic
The Launch Control Program provides the best
acceleration possible when starting from a stop .
Requirement: The engine must be at ope rating
temperature
and the steering whee l must not be
turned.

select sport mode (5) or select the
dynamic

.. Press t he brake pedal strongly with your left
foot and ho ld it down fo r at least 1 second .
.,. At the same time, press the accelerator peda l
down comp lete ly w ith your right foot until t he
eng ine reaches and ma intains a high RPM .
.. Remove your foot from the brake peda l within

WARNING
- Always adapt your driving to the traff ic flow.
- Only use the Launch Control Program when
road and traffic condit ions allow it and oth-
er d rivers will not be endangered or an-
noyed by your driving and the vehicle's ac-
celeration.
- Please note that the driving wheels can spin
and the vehicle can break away when sport
mode is switched on, especially when the
road is slippery.
- Once you have acce le rated, you should
sw itch sport mode off by pressing t he
I.a OFFI
button .

Tips
- The transmission temperature
may increase
significant ly after using the Launch Contro l
Program . If that happens, t he prog ram may
not be ava ilab le for a few minutes. It will be
available ag ain afte r a coo l-down period.
- Whe n accelerating using the Launch Cont rol
prog ram, all vehicle pa rts a re subje ct to
he avy loads. This can res ult in incre a sed
wear .
