Starting the engine
.. Manual transmission:
Fully depress the clutch
pedal and move the shift lever to the neutral
pos ition.
.. Automatic transmission:
Step on the brake
peda l and move the selector lever to P or N

Switching the ignition on/ off
If you wou ld like to switch the ign ition on with-
out start ing the eng ine, fo llow these steps :
.. Press the

button wit h-
out pressing the clutch pedal (for manual
transm iss ions) or the brake pedal (for automat-
ic transmissions) .

.. To switch the ignit ion off, press the but ton
again .
If t he engi ne should not star t immediately , the
sta rting process is automatically stopped after a
sho rt time . Repeat starti ng procedure .
When starting t he engine, major electrical loads
are switched off temporarily.
After a cold engine is started, the re may be a
br ief period of increased noise because o il pres-
sure must first build up in the hydraul ic valve ad-
juste rs. This is normal and not a ca use fo r con-
cern.

- Never allow the engine to run in conf ined
spaces - danger of asphyxiation .
- Never turn off the engine unti l the vehicle
has come to a complete stop .
- Always take the key with you whenever yo u
leave your vehicle. Otherwise, the engine
could be started or electrical equipment
such as the power windows could be operat-
ed. This can lead to ser ious injury.
- Never leave children or persons requ iring as -
sistance unattended in the vehicle. The
doors can be locked using the remote trans-
mitter, preventing peop le from escaping
from t he vehicle on their ow n in the event of
an emergency. Depending on the time of
yea r, people ins ide the veh icle can be ex-
posed t o very high o r very low tempera-
tures .

Note
Avoid high engine rpm, full throttle and heavy
engine loads unti l the engine has reached op-
erating temper ature - othe rwise you risk en-
gine damage.

For the sake of the environment
Do not let the eng ine run while pa rked to
warm up. Beg in d riving immed iate ly. This re-
duces unne cessary emissions.
