b) Always hold the chain saw with
your right hand on the rear han-
dle and your left hand on the
front handle. Holding the chain saw
withareversedhandconfigurationin-
creases the risk of personal injury and
should never be done.
c) Hold the chainsaw only by the
insulated gripping surfaces, as
the saw chain may come into
contact with concealed power
lines. Contact with a live wire by the
saw chain can also cause a charge in
metal parts of the device and result in
an electric shock.
d)Wear eye protection. Further
protective equipment for the
ears, head, hands, legs and
feet is recommended. Appropriate
protective clothing reduces the risk of
injuryfromflyingchipmaterialandac-
cidental contact with the saw chain.
e) Do not use the chainsaw to
work from trees, ladders, a roof
or other unstable surfaces. Oper-
ating the device in such a way poses a
serious risk of injury.
f) Ensure you are standing firmly
and only use the chainsaw if
the ground beneath you is solid,
secure and even. Slippery ground
or unstable surfaces can lead to loss
of balance or loss of control over the
chainsaw.
g)If working on a branch under
tension, be aware that it will
spring back. Once the tension in
thewoodfibreshasbeenreleased,the
branch may hit the user and/or control
over the chainsaw may be lost.
h) Be particularly careful when
cutting brushwood and young
trees. The thin material may become
caught in the saw chain and hit you or
46
cause you to lose balance.
i) Carry the chainsaw by the front
handle when it is switched off
with the saw chain pointing
away from your body. Always
place the protective cover onto
the chainsaw when transporting
or storing it. Careful handling of the
chainsaw reduces the probability of ac-
cidentally coming into contact with the
running saw chain.
j) Observe instructions for lubrica-
tion, chain tensioning and re-
placing the guide rail and chain.
An improperly tensioned or lubricated
chain may rip apart or increase the risk
of kickback.
k) Only saw wood. Do not use the
chainsaw for work for which
it is not intended. Example: Do
not use the chainsaw to saw
through metal, plastic, masonry
or construction materials not
made from wood. Use of the chain-
saw for unintended applications can
lead to hazardous situations.
l) Do not attempt to fell a tree until
you have a clear understanding
of the risks and how to avoid
them. The user or other persons can
be seriously injured by a falling tree.
