3 IQ8 Commercial System layout design

This section focuses on the IQ8 Commercial System structural layout design after the system
component selection and single-line diagram finalization.

3.1 PV array layout design

Array design is the physical layout of the Solar PV modules and associate cabling for modules. Array
design with Enphase IQ8 Commercial Microinverter offers flexibility.
Each IQ8 Commercial Microinverter variant can be connected with one electrically compatible high-
power PV module.
You can consider any array configuration, module orientation, azimuth, and tilt angle for the PV
modules. Please note that IQ8 has a single Maximum Power point tracking, and if connected with two
series connected modules, both the panels should have the same orientation, azimuth, and tilt angle for
maximizing power output.
3.1.1

Information required for array design

Solar module specifications (mechanical and electrical).
Allowed microinverter mounting location.
DC connector type and cable lengths.
Type of PV module: Monofacial or bifacial, 54-cell/108 half-cell, 60-cell/120 half-cell, 66-
cell/132 half-cell, and 72-cell/144 half-cell.
Available installation area of the proposed location (including shading, pitch, orientation, roof
material/ type, and access).

3.1.2 Design considerations for PV array layout

Site electrical configuration and layout.
Structural mounting integrity.
Site shade paths.
Load bearing capacity of the terrace, rooftop, or the structure on which the PV system
is mounted.
Typical and maximum wind loads at that location, also factoring in the height of the
installation.
Site access (access to arrays for maintenance, and so on).

3.2 AC cabling layout

Plan each cable segment to allow drop connectors on the Enphase QD Cable to align with the
IQ8 Commercial Microinverter. Allow extra length for slack, cable turns, & any obstructions.

Mark the approximate location of the microinverter on each PV module or the PV racking.
3. Field wireable connectors are pre-installed at the ends of the QD Cables to increase the
cable length beyond the connector limit mentioned in Table 6. The field wireable connectors
are protected with sealing caps. The sealing caps must be removed only when you are
increasing cable length using the field wireables at the cable end.
WARNING: Do not remove sealing caps from the cable end field wireable connectors if they
are not used to increase cable length.
