Chapter 4 – Using the nTier700 VTL BlueScale Web Interface
Icon Meaning
Drive initializing. The status of the drive cannot be determined because it is
initializing. Check the appropriate operator panel screen and the BlueScale web
interface for more information.
Drive off. The drive is temporarily powered off and ready to be replaced (see Power
Off Using the Operator Panel on page 80). The drive automatically powers on when you
slide the blade back into the enclosure.
Drive slot empty. The drive slot in the blade is powered on, but no drive is installed.
Drive disabled. The drive is powered off and disabled. The drive remains off until you
manually power it on using the operator panel.

Restarting or Shutting Down the nTier700 VTL

Under normal circumstances, you restart or shut down the nTier700 VTL from the VTL
Console as described in Using the VTL Console on this page. The shutdown process
saves the system configuration and stops the operating system, readies the system to
be powered off.
You can also use the Remote Management Module to remotely power down the
nTier700 VTL. For more information about using RMM to power-down remotely, see
Using the nTier700 VTL RMM on page 73.
Under some circumstances, SpectraGuard Technical Support may direct you to power-
cycle the nTier700 VTL to recover from an error. To power off the nTier700 VTL, press
and hold the front panel power button (Figure 1-1 on page 18) until the button's LED
turns off. Press the button again power the nTier700 VTL back on again.
Caution:
Do not use the power button to turn off the nTier700 VTL
unless you are specifically instructed to do so by SpectraGuard
Technical Support. Instead, use the shutdown procedure
described in this section.
