    Rack-Mounting the nTier700 These instructions describe rack-mounting a Spectra procedure is the same for both the nTier700 Intelligent Secondary Storage appliance and the nTier700 Deduplication Virtual Tape nTier700 (VTL) appliance. Both appliances are referred to as the nTier700 in these instructions.

    The use of two-post “telco” racks is not supported. Note: An enclosed 19-inch, four-post rack is available for purchase from Spectra Logic. The rack has two doors and removable side panels to provide access to the sides of the nTier700.

  • Page 7: Prepare The Rack

    Assemble the rack, if necessary. Identify the location in the rack where you will install the nTier700. For stability, Spectra Logic recommends mounting the nTier700 at the bottom of the rack. Figure 1 Ensure clearance between the rack’s front door and the front posts.

  • Page 8: Install The Rack Shelf In The Rack

    Rack-Mounting the nTier700 Rackmount the nTier700 Do not install the drives into the blades until after the nTier700 is installed in the rack. Install the Rack Shelf in the Rack 1. Position the shelf with the adjustable sliders toward the back of the rack. With one person lifting the front of the shelf and the other lifting the rear, angle the shelf into the rack so that the mounting tabs on the front and back of the shelf are positioned inside the rack posts.
