7500-Rev2.5 Greensand Filter Installation & Startup Guide
How Your Greensand Filter Works:
Water enters the top of the tank and flows down through
the media and up the distributor tube. Iron and
manganese are removed and trapped in the greensand
media.
During backwash the flow of water is reversed and water
flows down the distributor tube and up through the media,
lifting and expanding the Greensand media and washing
out the trapped iron and manganese to drain.
After the first backwash, a brine draw cycle draws in
potassium permanganate solution from the pot perm tank
and slowly rinses and restores the greensand media in a
process called "regeneration".
The 7500‐Rev4 Control Valve tracks the amount of water
that is used and will backwashbased on gallons OR every 4
to 7 days, whichever comes first.
The number of gallons and days between backwashes can
be adjusted to suit your needs.
