Charge-air coolant – Draining
Preconditions
• Engine is stopped and starting disabled.
Spare parts
Designation / Use
Sealing ring
Coolant is hot and under pressure.
Risk of injury and scalding!
WARNING
Charge-air coolant – Draining
1. Provide an appropriate container to drain the
coolant into.
2. Turn breather valve of coolant expansion tank
counterclockwise until the first stop and allow
pressure to escape.
3. Continue to turn breather valve counterclockwise
and remove.
4. Draw off segregated corrosion inhibitor oil in
expansion tank through the filler neck.
5. Open drain valves and drain plugs and drain
coolant at the following points:
• at the LT coolant pump
• at the LT thermostat housing.
6. Draining of residual coolant:
• at the intercooler
7. Close all drain valves and install drain plugs
with new sealing rings.
8. Place breather valve on filler neck and close.

• Let the engine cool down.
• Wear protective clothing, gloves, and goggles / safety mask.
