Chapter 7 Format (Initialization)

What Is Formatting?

formatted to HFS Plus file system by default.
For Windows:
Format the drive to NTFS.
Note: The maximum size of a file on a FAT32 hard drive is 4 GB.
For Mac:
You can proceed with HFS Plus.

Note When Formatting

• Never unplug, reset, or turn off the computer during the formatting process. This could result in damage to the
drive or other problems. Proper operation cannot be guaranteed if the format process is interrupted.
• The data stored in the hard drive will be deleted by formatting. Make sure no essential data remains before
formatting.
