SULP distance, thickness;
distance below the baseline
thickness of the underline
The SULP command sets the thickness of any subsequent underlining as well as the
distance below the baseline, in the unit value designated by the UNIT command. The
distance parameter is limited only by the size of the page. Negative values can be used to
obtain overlines.
The minimum underline thickness is one dot. The maximum underline thickness is 127
dots. The default values include:
Distance below baseline: 7 dots
Thickness of underline: 4 dots
One dot equals approximately 0.0083 cm or 0.0033 inches.
The SULP command does not affect the underline character (_), which is an independent
character with ASCII code 95 (hex 5F). If your word-processing software writes
underlines by backing up and printing the underline character instead of using the
printing system's automatic underline feature, the SULP command will control only
underlines printed by the U-option in PRESCRIBE commands such as TEXT.
