Left Seal, Replace

Special tools and workshop equipment required
♦ Used Oil Collection and Extraction Unit - VAG1782-
♦ Puller - Seal Lever - VW681-
♦ Seal Installer - Final Drive/Gearbox - T10139-
Note
A defective shaft seal will allow gear oil to enter the torque con‐
verter bell housing.
Procedure
• Transmission removed and mounted to the engine/transmis‐
sion holder. Refer to
⇒ "5 Securing on Engine and Transmission Holder",
page 109 .
Note
Clean working conditions for the automatic transmission. Re‐

Caution
Danger of causing damage to the transmission.
♦ Do not place the transmission on the ATF pan.
– Place the -SMN372500- under the transmission.
– Drain the front final drive gear oil, by opening drain plug
-arrow B-.
– Remove the right flange shaft. Refer to
⇒ "4.2 Right Flange Shaft, Removing and Installing",
page 173 .
– Install the drain plug -arrow B- and tighten it. Refer to
⇒ "2.1 Overview - Drain and Inspection Plugs for Gear Oil",
page 150 .
