In this measurement technique: Ammonium reacts with salicylate and hypochlorite ions in the presence of alkaline condition and catalysts to generate a blue-green compound.

However, the installation position of the instrument must be dry and avoid direct sunlight, and the temperature variation between day and night shall not be higher than 10°C / 24h.
