PRODUCT MANUAL IONPAC FAST ANION ANALYTICAL COLUMN ® (4 x 250 mm, P/N SP5516) QUICKSTART STEPS AND LINKS Click blue text below to get started. Section 3, “Operation”. Note operation precautions and chemical purity requirements. Section 4.1, “Eluent Preparation". Make the required stock and working solutions for eluents.
Document No. 032882-05 IonPac Fast Anion Page 3 of 12 SECTION 1 - INTRODUCTION The IonPac Fast Anion Analytical Column (P/N 039590) is designed specifically for the rapid analysis of anions in defined matrices. It provides the most rapid analysis available. Seven common anions can be determined in less than 3 minutes. It is ideal for achieving maximum throughput of relatively simple, well-characterized samples.

NOTE To save regenerant preparation time, consumption, and waste, it is recommended that the AutoRegen Accessory be purchased.
Document No. 032882-05 IonPac Fast Anion Page 5 of 12 SECTION 3 - OPERATION Operation Precautions A. The eluent pH should be between 2 and 11. The sample pH should be between 2 and 13. Exceeding the limits of these pH ranges will cause Irreversible damage to the IonPac Fast Anion Analytical Column.
Document No. 032882-05 IonPac Fast Anion Page 6 of 12 SECTION 4 - EXAMPLE APPLICATIONS Separation and elution of common anions on the IonPac Fast Anion Analytical Column has been optimized utilizing a specific carbonate/bicarbonate eluent. Both monovalent and divalent anions are eluted in less than three minutes based on the concentration and proportions of sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate.
Document No. 032882-05 IonPac Fast Anion Page 7 of 12 4.1.2 Dilution of the Eluents Concentrate Dilute 10.0 mL of 100X eluent concentrate to one liter in a volumetric flask, using degassed, deionized water having a specific resistance of 18.2 megohm-cm. The eluent is now ready for use. Regenerant Preparation The regenerant is 20 mN sulfuric acid.

For more information on problems that originate with the Ion Chromatograph (IC) or the Anion MicroMembrane Suppressor (AMMS III), refer to the Troubleshooting Guide in the appropriate operator’s manual.
Document No. 032882-05 IonPac Fast Anion Page 10 of 12 NOTE If any of the column packing becomes lodged between the end of the column and the bed support washer assembly, no amount of tightening will seal the column. Make sure that the washer and the end of the column are clean before screwing the end fitting back onto the column.

Make sure you are using 0.01 2-inch ID tubing, in all cases, between the injection valve and the detector cell inlet, and that the tubing lengths are minimized.

This baseline upset can show up as a peak of varying size and shape. It will happen when the particular valve needs to be cleaned or retorqued (see system manual).
