Press the Power button to turn on the printer. The printer will now start up. After the Display Screen shows the Canon logo, Starting up... Please wait. is displayed. The printer goes online in preparation for printing after startup, and the Online lamp and paper source section lamp remain lit.
Page 9 Turning the Printer On and Off • If "!ERROR" is shown on the Display Screen Turn off the printer and contact your Canon dealer. • The Online lamp and Message lamp are not lit (even once), and nothing appears on the Display Screen Make sure the printer is plugged in correctly.

Loading a Roll Note • For details on supported sizes and types of the roll that can be loaded, see the Paper Reference Guide. • Cut the edge of the roll paper if it is uneven, dirty, or has tape residue. Uneven, dirty, or sticky edges may cause feeding problems and affect the printing quality.
Page 12 Loading a Roll Lift the Holder Stopper lever (a) from the shaft side to unlock it. Holding the Holder Stopper at the position indicated (b), remove it from the Roll Holder. With the edge of the roll paper facing back as shown, set the roll with the Roll Holder from the right.

After you load a roll, the printer automatically shows a menu for selection of the paper type on the Display Screen.

Loading Sheets Manually Note • If the Platen is dirty, clean inside the Top Cover. • After pressing the Load/Eject button, you can refer to instructions on the Display Screen as you load the paper. You can switch the paper source between the roll and the sheet by pressing the Feeder Selection button.
Page 19 Loading Sheets Manually Note • If you print on a long sheet (longer than 914 mm [36 in]), the trailing edge may touch the ﬂoor and become dirty. Before loading long paper, remove the Roll Holder and spread a clean cloth or paper on the ﬂoor. Open the Top Cover and push the Release Lever back.

Printing from Mac OS 9 Printing After selecting the printer in Chooser from the Apple menu, print by using menus in the source application. Choose Chooser in the Apple menu to display the Chooser window. In the list at left, click GARO Printer Driver. In the Destination list at right, select AppleTalk, and then select the printer in the list below.

Replacing Ink Tanks Compatible Ink Tank An Ink Tank that can be used in the printer is labeled with a white letter "A" in a black circle on the side. Request an Ink Tank with the same label when you purchase a new Ink Ta n k .
Page 32 Replacing Ink Tanks Replacing an Ink Tank Make sure no print jobs are in progress. You can replace Ink Tank if the Display Screen indicates the printer is Online or Ofﬂine, or if messages advise you to check the amount of ink left or replace the Ink Tank.
Page 33 Replacing Ink Tanks Open the Ink Tank Cover and check the Ink Lamp. The Ink Lamp ﬂashes quickly if there is no ink left. Press the tip of the Ink Tank Lock Lever of the color for replacement and lift the Ink Tank Lock Lever to open it.
Page 34 Replacing Ink Tanks Hold the empty Ink Tank by the grip to remove it, and press the OK button. Note • If there is still some ink left in the Ink Tank you removed, store the ink tank with the ink holes (a) facing up. Otherwise, ink may leak and cause stains. Put the Ink Tank in a plastic bag and seal it.
Page 35 Replacing Ink Tanks Before opening the pouch, shake the Ink Tank gently seven or eight times. Agitate the ink in the Ink Tank by slowly turning the Ink Tank upside-down and right side up several times. Note • If you do not shake the Ink Tank, the ink may sediment, which may affect printing quality.
Page 36 Replacing Ink Tanks Press the OK button and insert the Ink Tank into the holder facing as shown in the ﬁgure, with the ink holes down. Important • Ink Tank cannot be loaded in the holder if the color or orientation is wrong. If the Ink Tank does not ﬁt in the holder, do not force it into the holder.
