OPERATION

3. Tractor Horsepower

The horsepower required to operate the mower depends on several operating factors including the vegetation
to be cut, terrain condition, operator experience, condition of the mower and tractor, and other factors. The
minimum tractor HP is 200 HP (149 kW). Operating the mower with a tractor that does not have enough power
will produce a less desirable cut and may cause tractor engine damage.

3.1 Drawbar

Position the length of the drawbar from the end of
the tractor PTO shaft to the drawbar hitch hole
according to the operating speed of the cutter. For
1000 RPM cutters, set the drawbar length at 20" for
1-3/4" 20 spline cutters, and set at 16" for 1-3/8 21
spline cutters.
Incorrect drawbar length will change angle of
driveline causing possible damage to constant
velocity joint. Do not use PTO adaptors. PTO
adaptors will invalidate your warranty. See your
tractors operator's manual for drawbar adjustment
procedures.
IMPORTANT: The drawbar must be able to support
the weight of the rotary cutter.

3.2 Connection to Tractor - Equal Angle Hitch

Pin the hitch block to the swivel according to the
tractor PTO size. For 1-3/8" x 21 spline PTO's, the
hitch block is mounted as shown in the graphic. 1-3/
4 x 20" spline PTO's require the hitch block to be
moved back a setting.
IMPORTANT: Incorrect hitch block setup may
cause damage to the driveline.
Adjust the width of the hitch block spacer plates
using the provided shims. Remove the 1/2" bolts
and place the shims between the spacer plate and
hitch block until the opening is no greater than 1/8"
wider than the drawbar.
Adjust the spacer plates evenly and when the shim
plates are not in use, place them to the outside of
the hitch block to prevent the 1/2" bolts from
projecting through the spacer plates.
Wind the jack to raise the hitch block in line with the
tractor drawbar. Insert a steel rod through the
tractor drawbar. Insert a steel rod through the
slotted holes in the side of the swivel to keep the
hitch block level while connecting to the tractor
drawbar. DO NOT use you hand to steady the hitch
block.
