TAKING CARE OF UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS

ENGINE WILL NOT START

Electric starter does not operate
Possible cause
Battery connections loose or corroded.
Batteries discharged.
Fuse(s) blown.
Oil indicator comes on. Low engine oil
level.
Starter operates, but engine will not start
Possible cause
Drive clutch lever is squeezed.
Auger clutch switch is ON position.
Fuel valve lever is OFF.
Sediment cup obstructed.
Stale or old fuel.
Spark plug cap off.
Improper electrode gap or deposits in the
spark plug gap.
Auto choke system is stuck from a foreign
material (ice, etc.).
Correction
Clean and tighten battery connections
(page 97).
Recharge batteries (page 99).
Replace fuse(s)(page 100).
Add oil.
Correction
Release the drive clutch lever (page 72).
Turn the auger clutch switch to the OFF
position (page 25).
Turn fuel valve lever to ON (page 44).
Check for contaminants in sediment cup
(page 109).
Be sure tank has fresh fuel.
Drain carburetor and sediment cup (page
108).
Make sure cap is connected.
Verify that spark plug is free of deposits,
and has proper gap (page 88).
Push the manual start lever (page 45).
