TAKING CARE OF UNEXPECTED PROBLEMS

ENGINE PROBLEMS

Electric starter does not operate
Possible cause
No electric current from outlet.
Defective power cord.
Starter operates, but engine will not start
Possible cause
Throttle not in proper position.
Fuel valve is OFF.
Sediment cup obstructed.
Stale or old fuel.
Spark plug cap off.
Improper electrode gap or
deposits in the spark plug gap.

Correction
Try known good electrical
outlet. Start engine by using the
recoil starter.
Try another power cord. Start
engine by using the recoil
starter.
Correction
Throttle must be in FAST
position, choke OFF for a hot
start, choke ON for a cold start
(see page 23).
Turn fuel valve to ON (see page
22). Check for contaminates in
sediment cup (see page 56).
Be sure tank has fresh fuel.
Drain carburetor and sediment
cup (see page 56).
Make sure cap is connected.
Verify that spark plug is free of
deposits, and has proper gap
(see page 47).
