Appendix B: Sample Configurations
The following are several sample PCCI configuration examples. These examples do need to be
followed exactly, but can form the basis for your own deployment.
Some general rules apply throughout any PCCI Configuration:
•
Only one Paragon II System Controller (P2-SC) can be present on any subnet.
•
A P2-SC device can manage up to 8 base-tier Paragon II switches.
•
When building tiers 'larger' Paragon switches cannot be tiered off 'smaller' Paragon
switches.
•
Only Paragon II switches can be used on the base-tier.
•
Paragon II switches cannot be tiered off of HW3 Paragon I switches.
•
A UST-IP can be substituted for the combination of an IP-Reach and UST User Station.
Single Paragon Switch Configuration
This is the simplest PCCI configuration, a single Paragon switch connected to server targets, with
USTIPs providing access. Again, this configuration is only a suggestion and need not be exactly
duplicated. For example, the UMT 832 can be replaced by a UMT1664, UST-IP2 units can be
replaced by 2 UST-IP units each, or an IP-Reach M2 and 2 UST User Stations.
One P2-SC device can handle up to 8 such Single Paragon switch configurations on a given
subnet.
