9. FAULT DIAGNOSIS

SYMPTOM
Pneumatic motor runs
slowly
Insert does not deform
properly
Drive screw turns
independent of motor
Insert will not place
onto drive screw
Tool is jammed on
placed insert
Drive screw breaks
Tool does not spin on
POSSIBLE CAUSE
Air leak from motor
Low air pressure
Air way blockage
Worn drive screw
Vanes jamming
Stroke incorrectly set
Air pressure outside the tolerance
Low oil level
Insert out of grip
Worn or damaged drives haft
Worn or damaged drive screw
Adaptor nut loose
Locking ring 90 missing
Incorrect Insert thread size
Incorrect drive screw fitted
Worn or damaged drive screw
Nose equipment incorrectly assembled
Excessive stroke/ Defective insert/ Worn
or defective drive screw
Stroke of tool excessive
Side load on drive screw
Screw adaptor nut loose
No air supply
Insufficient gap between locknut 45
and spindle 44
Push rod 78 too short
Air motor jammed
REMEDY
Check for worn seals. Replace
Increase
Clear restriction in air supply
Replace
Lubricate tool through air inlet
Adjust
Adjust
Prime tool
Check grip range of Insert
Replace

Tighten
Fit new locking ring
Change to correct insert
Change to correct drive screw
Replace
Disconnect air supply, re-fit nose
equipment carefully
DO NOT DEPRESS TRIGGER.
Unlock. Stroke locking device and
bring rear casing forward to zero stroke
position. Depress trigger. Tool should
spin off. Reset stroke. If not, disconnect
air to tool. Insert a 4mm Ø pin through
nose casing slots into spindle 44. Turn
until drive screw leaves. Insert. Use new
insert AND Drive screw.
Re-set stroke
Hold tool square to application when
placing Insert
Tighten
Connect
Adjust to1.5mm gap to 2mm gap
Replace
Lubricate tool at air inlet. If insufficient
Dismantle and clean air motor
thoroughly
