Wire Requirements
Each of the various types of circuits within an IFC-200 Fire Control
System has a specific type of wire that must be used in order to ensure
proper operation. In addition, the wire gauge of a particular circuit is
contingent on the length of that circuit. Use the table below to determine
the specific wiring requirements for each circuit.
Note: If the SLC loop is run in conduit with indicating appliance circuits,
employ only electronic sounders, such as the MA/SS-24. This
greatly reduces the risk of encountering problems caused by using
more electronically noisy indicating appliances, such as electro-
mechanical bells or horns.
Wire Requirements
Twisted-shielded pair,
12 to 18 AWG. 40 ohms
maximum per length of
Style 6 and 7 loops.
40 ohms per branch
maximum for Style 4 loops.
Untwisted, unshielded wire,
in conduit or outside of
conduit.
Twisted-shielded pair.
18 AWG minimum.
Twisted-shielded pair.
18 AWG minimum.
12-18 AWG. Maximum IDC
wire resistance is 20 ohms.
12-18 AWG. MPS-24A: At
alarm current level, no more
than a 1.2 volts drop at the
end of the circuit.
12-18 AWG. Size wire so
that no more than 1.2 volts
drop across wire run from the
supply source to end of any
branch.
12 AWG in conduit.
