Power Sources

The aspirator can operate using external power or it can operate powered by its internal
Li-ion battery.
The external AC/DC power supply provided with the device is a universal supply that can
operate with an input of 100 to 240 VAC 50/60 Hz and with a 400 Hz 110 VAC input. The
power supply provides both Class I and Class II electrical protection. The voltage delivered to
the device is 24 VDC at 4 A. When connected to external power, the aspirator automatically
charges its internal battery while operating.

Operating Using External DC Power

Direct Current (DC) power can also be used to operate the device using the ZOLL-provided
12 VDC automotive cable. The device will both operate and charge using DC power sources
between 11.8 to 30.0 VDC.
Caution
Always physically disconnect the aspirator from vehicle power when jump starting the vehicle.
Failure to do so could damage the device.

Operating Using Battery Power

When the aspirator is disconnected from external power, the device automatically switches to
its internal battery for operating power and triggers the External Power Low/Fail alarm; there is
no interruption in operation or loss of any alarms. When external power returns, operating
power automatically switches to the external power source.
In the event you need to shutdown, turn the Power Switch to the OFF ("O") position. If this
fails to work or puts the patient or operator at possible risk, disconnect the device from the
external power source.
The Li-ion battery pack used in the device exhibits excellent charge retention characteristics.
(See Chapter 6 regarding battery care). It rapidly recharges to 90% of its capacity in
approximately 2 hours when the battery is completely depleted. It can take another 2 hours of
trickle-charging to reach 100% capacity, depending on use and environmental conditions.
The aspirator will always use the external power source to preserve the internal battery charge.
This ensures power is available for transport use or emergency back-up. If the External Power
Low/Fail alarm occurs, the device will automatically revert to its internal battery for operating
power.
Caution
Continuous battery charging reduces the life of the battery. When the device is not in regular use,
charge it for 4 hours or overnight every 4 to 6 months.
